Mechtronix Systems’ ATR-600 FSTD sim gains European approval

Dec. 6, 2011, Montreal - Operators of ATR -600 series aircraft will now be able to train their pilots on the Mechtronix Systems’ ATR 72-600 Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTDs) at the ATR Training Centre in Toulouse, France, following formal approval by the French Civil Aviation Authority’s Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

This Flight Simulation Training Device from Mechtronix for the new ATR-600 series is the first to be qualified for that aircraft type anywhere in the world.

The announcement is the culmination of a close working partnership between Mechtronix, ATR and Thales Avionics says Fernando Petruzziello, CEO of Mechtronix: “Success has come through genuine teamwork at all levels, both in our combined vision for what the market demands and through our drive for technical innovation in engineering that has turned this vision into reality,” he says.

The ATR-600 FFT X™ from Mechtronix represents the ATR 72-600 flightdeck with Full Flight Simulator fidelity and quality; a conversion kit to the 42-600 will soon further complement the high-end training device. It features a new generation 3-DOF actuated seat-based motion cueing system, high-end sound simulation system and FFS IOS tower.

This flexible device can be upgraded to a FFS Level D according to the customers’ needs and requirements, as it is equipped with a three-channel 200×40 degree collimated visual system as well as a EP1000CT Image Generator. The FFT X™ comes with a new, re-hosted Thales avionics suite including features such as CAC, ACARS, T2CAS and weather radar.

The ATR Training Centre already operates FFT and FFT X™ systems for the -500 series as well as using Mechtronix’ Flat Panel Trainers. It was the success that it enjoyed with the -500 series that helped make the -600 series decision more straightforward says Michel Corbière, ATR VP Training and Flight Operations: “Partnering with Mechtronix again will enable us to offer transitional and recurrent training for all operators of -600 series aircraft in the most cost-effective way imaginable,” he says.

Fernando Petruzziello adds: “The continued support of our unique FFT X™ concept by aircraft manufacturers like ATR is a real testimony of our continued effort to provide airlines and training organizations with innovative solutions for training and flight operations,” he says. “It demonstrates clearly the value of the Mechtronix FFT X™ program.”
