Aug. 21, 2012 – The Webster Memorial Trophy Competition wrapped up Saturday evening with a lavish awards banquet at the Canada Aviation & Space Museum in Ottawa – and a pair of Andrew's stole the show.

Andrew Woods representing the Western Ontario region was the big winner, capturing the 2012 Webster Memorial Trophy. Woods flies out of Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Andrew Burns representing the region of British Columbia was named runner up. Burns flies with Coastal Pacific Aviation in Abbotsford. B.C.

Some 120 dignitaries and guests from across the entire spectrum of the aviation community attended the event. The Webster has been sponsored by Air Canada since 1980 and three senior executives from the company were present along with senior executive representation from Jazz and Air Transat. The Webster has expanded significantly over the past few years and has had the good fortune to gather close to 30 significant supporters to the program including pronounced interest from the U.S.
The program at the national level was altered this year with the introduction of Redbird Flight Training Devices as part of the flight testing portion of the event. Flight tests also underwent change with the introduction of new exercises to challenge the skills of the nine finalists.
On behalf of the entire Webster team and Wings magazine, we would like to congratulate all the finalists who achieved this high standard in 2012. They represented their flight schools, Air Canada and Webster exceptionally well. The Webster team would also like to thank the Rockcliffe Flying Club as the host school. Staff and volunteers did a great job ensuring the finalists were transported to and from the hotel and other planned venues when needed. The timing was also impeccable – the air portion of the competition was seamless.
